East Rutherford, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Mark Sanchezs two touchdown passes and a key play from the Eagles special teams enabled Philadelphia to end a disappointing December on a high note with a 34-26 win over the New York Giants. Trey Burtons 27-yard runback of a punt blocked by James Casey early in the third quarter helped the Eagles (10-6) halt a costly three-game skid that eliminated the club from playoff contention, while Sanchez put up 292 yards with an interception on a solid 23-of-36 completion rate in the former Jets return to MetLife Stadium. I think this team played extremely hard and I think they played with great effort, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said afterward. Obviously a couple of games didnt bounce our way, but I think we all felt that this week, it was important to get to double digit wins, to win 10 games. Jordan Matthews aided Philadelphias cause as well by coming up with 105 yards and a touchdown on eight catches, with LeSean McCoy contributing 99 rushing yards on 17 carries. New York (6-10) had a three-game win streak stopped despite 429 passing yards from Eli Manning and career days from Odell Beckham Jr. and Rueben Randle. The Giants ended their first 10-loss season since Mannings rookie year of 2004. We had some chances, said Giants head coach Tom Coughlin. We did a lot of things pretty well offensively. Not enough. Beckham finished out a sensational rookie campaign by amassing 185 yards and a touchdown on 12 receptions, while Randle finished with a personal-best 158 yards on six grabs. Manning hit on 28-of-53 throws with one touchdown and an interception. The Eagles led 17-16 at the conclusion of an action-packed first half following Cody Parkeys 32-yard field goal as time expired, then extended the margin early in the third quarter behind their special teams unit. Casey rushed up the middle to get a hand on Steve Weatherfords punt deep in New York territory, and Burton scooped up the free ball at the 27-yard line before racing up the sideline and diving into the end zone. Josh Browns fourth field goal of the day, a 53-yarder with 4:24 left in the third quarter, brought the Giants within 24-19. However, Randle had a 34-yard touchdown catch on the drive called back on a holding penalty by left tackle Will Beatty. After New York managed just one first down on its next possession, the Eagles created some more distance by marching 65 yards in eight plays. McCoy ripped off a 21-yard run and came up with a 15-yard catch to bring Philadelphia in scoring range, with Matthews adding a pair of receptions that set up Chris Polks 1-yard touchdown plunge for a 31-19 Philadelphia lead less than two minutes into the fourth quarter. The Giants quickly responded on Beckhams 63-yard catch-and-run touchdown, but Sanchez went 4-for-5 on the ensuing series to set Parkey up for a 39-yard field goal that put the Eagles up 34-26 with 7:56 left. New Yorks defense forced a three-and-out to get the ball back with 3:45 remaining, but Nate Allen ended any comeback hopes by intercepting Manning and returning the pick 40 yards to the Giants 18. We were pretty close to firing on all cylinders and it was just an awesome team win, Sanchez said. We talked about it all week that we wanted to do well in all three phases, and special teams got us a touchdown, the defense got us a turnover and the offense scored some points. Both teams were able to easily move down the field on their opening drives, with the Giants churning out 80 yards in six plays to take a 7-0 edge on Andre Williams 1-yard touchdown that Randle helped create with a leaping 43-yard catch in double coverage. Philadelphia needed just three plays and 71 seconds to answer, as Sanchez hit Matthews on the move and the rookie receiver shook a tackle at the Giants 30 before sprinting in for a 44-yard score. Sanchez was intercepted by Stevie Brown on the Eagles next series, but the turnover was negated by a 41-yard pass interference call on Chykie Brown that put the ball on the New York 6-yard line. Philadelphia capitalized when Sanchez found Brent Celek for a 1-yard touchdown on 3rd-and-goal for a 14-7 lead with 6:12 to go in the first quarter. The Eagles failed to reach the end zone again over the remainder of the half, however, as New York went ahead on three Josh Brown field goals. Two catches by Beckham, including a 22-yarder on 3rd-and-5, led to the first of those makes, a 38-yarder late in the initial quarter. The Giants later went 47 yards in 10 plays following Mike Harris interception of Sanchez to position Josh Brown for a 20-yard field goal that brought New York within 14-13 midway through the second. The Giants briefly went ahead on a 36-yard kick just prior to the two-minute warning that Randle helped get in range with grabs of 36 and 25 yards, though his offensive pass interference penalty near the goal line eventually caused the drive to stall. Sanchez then made good on 5-of-6 throws in engineering a two-minute drive that led to Parkeys field goal that concluded the first half. Game Notes Beckham posted his ninth straight game with at least 90 receiving yards, tying Hall of Famer Michael Irvins NFL record set in 1995 ... Weatherford had punted 672 times over a nine-year NFL career without having one blocked ... Parkey finished the season with 150 points, breaking an NFL rookie record previously held by Chicagos Kevin Butler in 1985. The total is also six more than David Akers franchise record in 2008 ... The Eagles, who shut out the Giants in Philadelphia by a 27-0 score in Week 6, completed their first season sweep of New York since 2010 ... The Giants had 278 total yards over the first two quarters, their highest total in a half since the 2012 season finale against Philadelphia ... Bjoerndalen, who had failed to win any major race for two years before Sochi, writes in a Facebook entry that he is "full of energy and inspiration" after winning the 10-kilometre sprint and mixed relay at last months Olympics.MILWAUKEE -- Ryan Arcidiacono had 20 points and 11 assists, and coolly guided No. 4 Villanova in overtime following a frenzied finish to regulation of a 94-85 victory over Marquette on Saturday. Arcidiacono had six points and two assists in the extra period. He hustled for a loose ball with 37.7 seconds left that allowed Villanova coach Jay Wright to call a timeout and avoid a turnover. James Bell, who finished with 30 points, followed with two free throws to make it a three-possession game for the Wildcats (17-2, 6-1 Big East). Todd Mayo had 18 points including the last 10 in regulation for Marquette (11-9, 3-4) to help force overtime at 77-77. A layup by Villanovas Tony Chennault with one second left in regulation was waved off by the officials after Steve Taylor, Jr., drew a charging foul. Wright pleaded with the officials while Marquettes fans erupted in jubilation. Arcidiacono helped his coach forget about the frantic ending, and Villanova snapped Marquettes 20-game winning streak in home conference games. Marquettes last loss at home to a Big East foe was 67-60 to Cincinnati on March 2, 2011. The Golden Eagles had the third-longest such streak in the country entering Saturday behind Gonzaga and Weber State, who were both at 23 games. The hard-fought win for Villanova at one of the toughest venues in the league helped ease the sting of a humbling 28-point loss at home earlier in the week to Creighton. Darrun Hilliard had 20 points on 8-of-13 shooting for Villanova. Davante Gardner had 29 points and 13 rebounds for Marquette. The Wildcats frustratedd Marquette early with jumpers, but Gardner led the Golden Eagles push in the paint to stay within a possession or two for much of the second half.dddddddddddd Villanova turned away every run -- until the end of regulation. The Wildcats kept it interesting after missing 5 of 7 from the free throw line in a stretch in the final 1:11. Mayo followed a running jumper with a three from the corner to get Marquette within 75-74 with 13.2 seconds left. Arcidiacono responded with two free throws, but then fouled Mayo on three-point attempt at the other end with 4.8 seconds left. Mayo hit all three free throws -- the last one tantalizingly bouncing on the rim a couple times before falling through for a 77-77 tie. It set up Chennaults contested drive for a potential game-winner, but the officials charging call whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Overtime had seemed unattainable after JayVaughn Pinkstons dunk gave Villanova a 68-57 lead with 4:53 to play. But the Golden Eagles fought back in their third straight overtime game before falling short. Villanova allowed an opponent to shoot at least 50 per cent from the field a second straight game, a startling statistic for a team that prided itself on holding teams under that mark for 47 straight games. While Creighton did its damage from the perimeter, Marquette pounded the ball inside with a 54-30 advantage in the paint. The bullish 6-foot-8 Gardner led the way, shooting 9 of 16. Marquette, though, wasted opportunities at the free throw line, especially in regulation, and finished 21 of 31 for the game. ST. LOUIS -- Rookie Tavon Austin has missed another day of practice, lessening the odds hell be ready for the St. Louis Rams season finale at Seattle. The eighth overall pick of the draft has missed the last two games. Earlier in the week, coach Jeff Fisher said Austin was improved. BUFFALO, N.Y. -- First, Ryan Miller. Now, Pat LaFontaine. A day after trading their star goalie to St. Louis, the Buffalo Sabres lost another face of their franchise after LaFontaine abruptly resigned as president of hockey operations on Saturday a little more than three months after being brought in to provide a new direction to the NHLs last-place team. The Sabres announced the decision in a news release issued after speculation had been raised of a potential front-office shake-up involving LaFontaine. "I would like to thank Pat for all he has done for the organization," Sabres owner Terry Pegula said in the release. "Pat joined us at a very difficult time, and helped transition the organization down a new path." The Sabres said LaFontaine would be returning to his previous role working with the National Hockey League. LaFontaine had been working with the league on player safety issues before being hired by the Sabres in mid-November. The former Sabres captains arrival was hailed as a major turning point for a struggling team. LaFontaine took over following a change in the front office during which general manager Darcy Regier and coach Ron Rolston were dismissed following the Sabres 4-15-1 start. LaFontaines first move was hiring former Sabres coach Ted Nolan to take over as coach on an interim basis for the remainder of the season. LaFontaines next step came in January, when he hired Tim Murray as general manager. "Terry Pegula hired me in November, and my primary objective was to lead the Sabres organization through a time of transition," LaFontaine said in the Sabres release. "Im proud of what weve been able to accomplish in a short period of time, and want to thank Terry and Kim Pegula for the opportunity and their support during my time with the Sabres." LaFontaines resignation still comes as a major surprise. In January, LaFontaine talked openly about how he would use his connections to USA Hockey in a bid to lure national and international events to Buffalo. He leaves a day after Murray made his first big splash by trading star goalie Ryan Miller and captain Steve Ott to the St. Louis Blues. In exchange, the Sabres acquired goalie Jaroslav Halak, forward Chris Stewart, prospect William Carrier, a 2015 first-round pick and a conditional 2016 thhird-round pick in a deal reached in advance of the NHL trade deadline on Wednesday.dddddddddddd The Sabres (18-34-8) had the day off on Saturday, and return to practice on Sunday before travelling to play at Dallas on Monday. They remain in last place, but are enjoying their first three-game winning streak following a 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks on Friday. This is not the first time LaFontaine has abruptly stepped down as an NHL team executive. In July 2006, LaFontaine quit the New York Islanders a little over a month after being brought in to serve as senior adviser to owner Charles Wang. In Buffalo, LaFontaines absence was notable this week once the team returned to the ice following the leagues Olympic break. He was not spotted in the press box during the Sabres three-game homestand that began with a 3-2 win over Carolina on Tuesday. That was unusual because LaFontaine had previously spent time watching games from the press-box level in Pegulas box, alongside Murray and several of the owners associates. LaFontaine also missed the teams "Power Play Luncheon" for fans on Friday, when he was scheduled to speak along with fellow former Sabres greats Gilbert Perreault, Rene Robert and Danny Gare. The crowd was informed LaFontaine had the flu. The Sabres have become a top-heavy organization since Regiers dismissal. Pegula created the position of president of hockey operations to hire LaFontaine. And Pegula did so only after LaFontaine declined a chance to become the GM by saying he didnt think he had enough experience for that job. Along with hiring Murray, the Sabres also brought in Hockey Hall of Fame member and long-time executive Craig Patrick to serve as a special adviser. LaFontaine backed the hiring of Murray and Patrick, by referring to both as his "wingers." He also discussed how important it was for him to be building a front-office team that could work together in rebuilding a team that has missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, and not won a playoff round since reaching the 2007 Eastern Conference finals. Its not clear what effect LaFontaines departure will have on the teams short-term future, including Nolans status. Murray said this week hes already had discussions with Nolan about extending his contract beyond this season. SURREY, B.C. -- The BC Lions expect to regain key linebacker Solomon Elimimian and veteran kicker Paul McCallum for Thursday nights home opener against the defending Grey Cup champion Toronto Argonauts. The Lions (0-1) started poorly against the Stampeders in their opening round clash in Calgary on Friday, and although they managed to outscore the hosts in the second half, they still lost 44-32. It was a frustrating game for Elimimian (ankle) to watch, and he admitted after Mondays practice that one point he "was about to throw a couple of chairs." "It was definitely tough," he said, before adding he was "expecting" to play in that game. "But that was last week and we have 17 more regular-season games to go." And that starts with a home date with the Argonauts (1-0), who fought back to overcome Hamilton 39-34 last week on the back of solid contributions from running back Chad Kackert (10 rushes for 112 yards and a touchdown) and wide receiver/kick returner Chad Owens. Elimimian is looking forward to the challenge of stopping that pair, along with QB Ricky Ray, who went 24-34 for 368 yards and four touchdowns against the Ti-Cats. "They have a great offence and a great offensive game," the 26-year-old said. "I just think the big thing for us is just doing what we do, and thats run to the ball and be physical and if we do that well be fine." Lions head coach Mike Benevides was looking forward to having Elimimian back at his disposal on defence as his team looks to avoid falling into a 0-2 hole. "The biggest thing that Solly brings to us is obviously that downhill mentality to defend the run," he said. "It gives us a little bit of synergy that we had in training camp and it just gives us another run stopper thats comfortable with `Biggie (LB Adam Bighill)." Besides Elimimian, the Lions should also be boosted by the return of 43-year-old McCallum, after Benevides watched his punter go through the motions Monday. "Paul did all the place kicking, he felt good, he did some punting and really showed some power," Benevides said. "So its gonna be on him because hes a pro and hes been around a long time. But I really liked what I saw from his place kicking. "He tells me he feels good, so Im gonna make sure that he is entirely confident that hes not feeling (the groin injury) anymore and well take a hard look at him." The news wasnt as promising for Lions star centre Angus Reid (lower back), with Benevides saying he will still be evaluated on a weekly basis. "Obviously, hes getting better all the time," the coach said of the 36-year-old. "The thing with him is its gonna be a week-to-week thing and for him its about loading it, meaning hes in the weight room doing squats, hes practising and then the true tell-tale will be how sore he is the next day or two days after." With the 13-year pro still sidelined, snapping duties will once again fall to second-year player Matt Norman, who is being groomed as Reids eventual replacement on the offensive line. The 25-year-old former guard struggled with the count in the loss to Calgary but said he had already put it behind him. "Ive looked at film, made some corrections and now Im focusing on Toronto," he said. Norman doesnt see Torontos visit as a tool for motivation, adding he maintains "the same level of intensity each week". "I dont go up or down depending on who were playing," he said. "I keep the same level of motivation and confidence for each game, to me its just another game." Despite his issues at centre, Norman had the full support of Lions QB Travis Lulay and Benevides as he makes the difficult transition. "Those types of things happen, they do happen, and Matt doesnt like it when they happen and its tough," said Lulay, who completed 21 of 36 passes for 283 yards and a touchdown against the Stampeders. "But its part of the process, you have to make mistakes to find out what you need to be better at so thats something hes obviously very conscious of. But Matts a pro, hell get those things ironed out and well get better there." Benevides said Normans errors were more glaring than others because of his job hiking the ball to Lulay on each possession. "You just have to grow with that a little bit, (but) when you look at the totality of the game, he played fine," he said. "Week to week hes gonna get better and you have to also give him a chance to go through some of these learning curves." NOTES: DE Julius Williams could make his first appearance in a Lions jersey on Thursday. Said Benevides: "He got some work on the weekend and were gonna take a hard look at that because if Julius can get in hell help us and that will give us a different type of rotation and a different type of player on the edge."aThe Lions added import LB Yaser Elqutub to their practice roster Monday. Cheap Throwback Indians Jerseys . -- Jake Paterson made 39 saves as the Saginaw Spirit halted the Guelph Storms seven-game win streak with a 6-3 victory on Sunday in Ontario Hockey League action.Gilmore Junio has decided to take one for the team, giving up his spot in Wednesdays 1000-metre speed skating final for Canadian teammate Denny Morrison. The three-time Olympian Morrison failed to qualify at the 1,000 distance at the Olympic trials in Calgary last month, falling just 50 metres short of the finish. But Junio, who finished 11th on Monday in his Olympic debut in the mens 500, said Tuesday its the right thing to do. “How Denny is skating now, I believe its in the best interest of the team if he races,” Junio said in a statement released by Speed Skating Canada. “To represent Canada at the Olympics is a huge honour and privilege but I believe that as Canadians, were not just here to compete; we are here to win. Denny has proven to be a consistent medal threat in the distance.” Its true Morrison is a contender at 1,000. Hes currently sixth in the World Cup standings at the distance, with a pair of fourth place finishes. In the past, hes won two silver medals at the world championships in the 1,000. The 28-year-old Fort St. John, B.C., native will try to win his first individual Olympic medal. Hes won gold and silver the last two Olympics as part of Canadas team pursuit. “This is an amazing gesture and Im ready to make the most of this opportunity,” Morrison said. Shani Davis of the United States will be gunning for another groundbreaking achievement in Wednesdays 1,000 metre race. Davis, 31, can become the first man ever to win three consecutive Olympic gold medals in speed skating, and the first American to do three straight in any Winter Gamees sport.dddddddddddd The Chicago native, who trained extensively at the Calgary Oval earlier this century, became the first African American to win Olympic gold in an individual Winter Games sport in 2006. Since then, hes set the world record at 1,000 and holds the top 10 sea level times at the distance. Given that Davis has twice won Olympic gold at 1,000 but has settled for silver twice in the 1,500, you might expect him to be more desirous of grabbing gold at the longer distance. Not so. "Those are my babies, man. I cant love one more than the other," he told The Associated Press last week. "Ive got two hands for two medals." Davis has shown signs of mortality in recent weeks. After winning the first three World Cup races at 1,000 this season, he finished third in December in Berlin to 2010 Olympic silver medallist Tae-Bum Mo of South Korea and Michel Mulder of the Netherlands. Last month, he split two races at the world sprint championships in January with Denis Kuzin of Kazakhstan. Other medal contenders include Dutch competitor Kjled Nuis and Brian Hansen, like Davis from the Chicago area. Three other Canadians join Morrison in Wednesdays race. William Dutton of Humboldt, Sask., and Muncef Ouardi each skated in the 500 metres on Monday. Dutton impressed at the sprint worlds Japan last month with a fourth place showing, although some of the worlds best elected not to travel to Japan. Vincent De Haître of Cumberland, Ont., will make his Olympic debut. The 19-year-old surprised many at the Olympic trials by posting the fastest time at 1,000.   run in the seventh inning

CLEVELAND -- Sami Aittokallio stopped 23 shots through regulation and all three shooters in the shootout as the Lake Erie Monsters edged the visiting Hamilton Bulldogs 3-2 on Friday in American Hockey League action. Mike Sgarbossa scored the shootout winner for the Monsters (3-3-0) while Brad Malone had two goals. Nick Tarnasky supplied the offence for the Bulldogs (1-0-2) as Dustin Tokarski turned aside 24-of-26 shots in defeat. Malone opened the scoring for Lake Erie with a power-play goal late in the first period and then he made it 2-0 for the Monsters with a short-handed goal midway through the second. Tarnasky cut Lake Eries lead in half 4:51 into the third period and then tied the game for Hamilton just under four minutes later while on the man advantage. The Monsters went 1 for 4 on the power play. The Bulldogs scored once on six chances with the man advantage. Evan Brown Jersey . The best round belonged to Pat Perez. Tiger Woods didnt come close to claiming either Thursday in the Farmers Insurance Open, where the seven-time champion failed to break par in the opening round for first time in his career. OKLAHOMA CITY -- The San Antonio Spurs never believed Serge Ibaka was out for the Western Conference finals, even after the Thunder said they expected him to miss the rest of the playoffs with a calf injury. Looks like the Spurs might have been on to something. The Thunder said Friday that their defensive standout now is day-to-day after his strained left calf showed improved movement and stability and a significant decrease in swelling. The Thunder have missed Ibaka badly as San Antonio has raced to a 2-0 lead in the series, and his possible return gives the Thunder hope as they prepare for Game 3 on Sunday in Oklahoma City. "His progress in the last several days has been surprising," Thunder general manager Sam Presti said. "I dont think any of us thought wed be standing here talking about this. Were grateful that we are." Well, maybe no one with the Thunder expected it. The Spurs certainly did. "We knew he would be back, and thats good," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. "Nobody would wish that on anybody to miss a playoff. Weve had guys miss playoffs before. Its obviously a downer. If he gets back in -- and Im sure he will, as Ive said from the beginning -- I think its great." Ibaka was injured in Game 6 against the Los Angeles Clippers, a Western Conference semifinals series-clinching win on May 15. He is averaging 12.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in the playoffs while shooting 62 per cent from the field. Presti did not say if Ibaka would be available for Game 3, just that he could not be ruled out. Presti said he felt it best to be forthcoming with the change in the situation. "It would be convenient to not provide the information, and if he were ever healthy enough to play in a game, to release that an hour before the game," he said. "But in this case, we dont think that was the way to handle it, because previously, we had deemed him out. And we cant deem him out." Ibaka, a 6-foot-10 forward, led the league in blocked shots during the regular season and erased many of Oklahoma Citys defensive mistakes. Witthout having to deal with Oklahoma Citys primary rim protector, San Antonio scored 66 points in the paint on 67 per cent shooting in a 122-105 win in Game 1.dddddddddddd. The Spurs followed up with 54 points in the paint on 66 per cent shooting in a 112-77 blowout in Game 2. Ibaka also provides balance for Oklahoma Citys offence with his mid-range jumper and an ability to finish close to the hoop when defences focus on Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. "Big difference," Spurs guard Danny Green said. "Obviously, one of the best defensive players in the league. Alters everything around the basket, rebounds, and also, of course, he can knock down shots. So youve got to respect him. Hopefully, if he does come back hes not as fresh, hes a little rusty." San Antonio said it will not make adjustments based on the news. "Were going to try to do the same thing," Spurs guard Manu Ginobili said. "Its not like were going to change the game plan for him. For sure, hes going to give them another big body that can be a presence in the paint, block shots and make some jumpers, but our idea will be the same." Presti said Oklahoma Citys medical staff would like to see Ibaka go through game-like conditions before allowing him to return. So far, he has done low-impact training -- light drills and light shooting. Conditioning could be an issue and even if he returns its unclear how much he would play. "Were still focusing on trying to beat the Spurs without him playing," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "That has not changed. I know hes listed as day-to-day, but he is out until Im told differently." Thunder centre Kendrick Perkins said Ibaka could not have erased all the defensive mistakes the Thunder made in Game 2. The Spurs shot 50 per cent from the field and made 9 of 23 3-pointers. "Hes a key guy, but at the end of the day, we shouldnt be getting beat this bad," Perkins said. "In my opinion, even if we would have Serge the last game, the way we played, we still would have lost." (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs are one win away from another trip to the NBA Finals, and theyll try and take that step Saturday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final. Follow all the action live on TSN and TSN GO beginning at 8:30pm et/5:30 pm pt. The series shifts back to Chesapeake Energy Arena Saturday night where the Thunder have won nine straight against San Antonio, including two in this postseason. "Its a tough place to play, and weve lost however many in a row there, and theyre going to be fighting for their lives. All those factors altogether is not going to make it an easy game for us," said Spurs forward Tim Duncan. "But we feel we play the right way." The Spurs moved within a game of a repeat appearance against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals thanks to a 117-89 blowout in Thursdays Game 5. The Heat prevailed last year, but San Antonio owns four titles since Duncan and head coach Gregg Popovich united in Alamo City. For the Thunder, this is the third time this postseason theyll face an elimination game. Since theyre playing on Saturday, their success thus far has been unquestioned. "We just have to worry about the next game," Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant said. "Were guaranteed 48 more minutes. Its been an up-and-down series but we have to find a way to come with it in Game 6." They didnt "come with it" in Game 5. The Spurs made 13 3-pointers and had six players score in double figures in Game 5s drubbing. Duncan led the way with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Manu Ginobili carried a bench attack that outscored Oklahoma Citys reserves by a wide 55-26 margin. Ginobili scored 19 points, fellow reserve Boris Diaw netted 13 and Danny Green and Kawhi Leonard each had 14 for the Spurs. After holding the Spurs to under 40 percent shooting in Games 3 and 4, the Thunder watched helplessly as San Antonio made 51.3 percent of its shots. "We didnt have the defensive disposition that weve had the last two games," Thunder head coach Scott Brooks said. "We have to regroup and come back better in a few days." Durant and Russell Westbrook finished with 25 and 21 points, respectively, for Oklahoma City, a far cry from the duos superb 71-point dual effort in Tuesdays victory. Serge Ibaka was limited to six points and just two rebounds in the loss. The Spurs tweaked their starting lineup for Game 6, inserting sharpshooter Matt Bonner in place of Tiago Splitter, a traditional center. Bonner was not a factor, but the rest of the Spurs usual reserves were instrumental in the strong start. "It worked for a while," Popovich said. "Im not too interested in talking to you about specifics about why things worked or didnt work. Id rather have other people figure that out." Three-pointers from Patty Mills and Green tied the game at 32-32 heading into the second, and Ginobili led the way in a one-sided second quarter with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting. Ginobilis layup and 3-pointer had the hosts ahead by as many as 13 late in the half before Westbrook beat the buzzer with a deep make to pull Oklahoma City within 65-55. The Spurs owned a 16-2 advantage in the paint in the second quarter, then capped the third on a 12-4 run to essentially put the game away. With the score at 94-74 entering the fourth, both teams emptied their benches with Game 6 on the horizon. If needed, Game 7 would be Monday in San Antonio. LONDON -- A three-man independent panel will investigate cyclings doping past, including allegations the sports governing body colluded with Lance Armstrong. UCI President Brian Cookson said Wednesday the commission will investigate allegations "that the UCI has been involved in wrongdoing in the past -- allegations which have done so much to hurt the credibility of the UCI and our sport." The probe is expected to centre on the UCIs handling of doping in the late 1990s and early 2000s, especially its links with Armstrong. Much could hinge on whether Armstrong and former UCI presidents Hein Verbrugggen and Pat McQuaid agree to testify. The UCI and Verbruggen have been accused of protecting Armstrong and helping cover up his doping. The American was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from Olympic sports for life after admitting to doping. The investigative panel will be based in Lausanne, Switzerland, and will be called the Cycling Independent Reform Commission. Cookson said he wants the investigation completed this year. The commission will be chaired by Dick Marty, a Swiss politician and former Swiss state prosecutor. The other members are German anti-doping expert Ulrich Haas and Peter Nicholson, a former Australian military officer and war crimes investigator. "Their work will also be focused on understanding what went so wrong in our sport and they will make recommendations for change so that as far as possible those mistakes are not repeated," Cookson said in a statement. In an interview published by Britains Daily Mail in November, Armstrong said Verbruggen helped him cover up doping at the 1999 Tour de France. Verbruggen dismissed it as a "ridiculous story." Armstrong said Verbruggen insisted "weve got to come up with something" to explain his positive tests for a banned corticosteroid. The UCI accepted Armstrongs backdated prescription for a cream to treat saddle sores, allowing him to stay in the race. He went on to win the first of his seven Tours. The UCI panel is also expected to investigate whether $125,000 donated by Armstrong was paid to cover up suspiccious doping tests.dddddddddddd Creation of the panel was one of the main campaign pledges of Cookson, a Briton who unseated Irelands McQuaid in the UCI presidential election in October. Cookson said the panel will have complete access to UCI files and electronic data that was seized by investigators within minutes of his election. The panel will seek testimony from current and past riders and officials. The UCI is working with the World Anti-Doping Agency on what type of incentives to offer witnesses in exchange for their co-operation. Cookson has said Armstrong would be among those invited to testify before the UCI panel, as well as Verbruggen and McQuaid. Armstrong has said he would co-operate with any international commission on cyclings doping past. He is seeking a reduction in his life ban. Armstrong has so far refused to provide sworn testimony to the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. It was USADAs detailed report in 2012 of drug use by Armstrongs U.S. Postal Service team that led to him being stripped of the Tour championships he won from 1999 to 2005. USADA has said the only chance to lessen the penalty is to answer questions under oath. Armstrong said on Twitter on Tuesday that "my position remains unchanged" and he plans on "co-operating openly & honestly" with any UCI commission that contacts him. He tweeted that "I can also confirm that neither myself nor anyone on my team has been contacted by the UCI or the independent commission." Cookson said the UCI will cover the full budget of the commission, which will operate "completely independently of the UCI" and receive no instructions from the body. Haas, a German professor of law at the University of Zurich, is an experienced judge at the Court of Arbitration for Sport who has been involved in prominent cycling cases. Haas was the chosen arbitrator of Alberto Contadors legal team on the three-man panel which eventually stripped the Spanish rider of his 2010 Tour de France victory and banned him for two years. The panel decided that Contadors positive test for clenbuterol was caused by a contaminated supplement.   Ignition Coil

Bike was running like crap.  Figured it was the carb.  Ripped it off and cleaned it.  Put it back, bike still running like crap.  Figured, maybe I messed up and took it off again to clean it.  This time I replaced gaskets, diaphragms, springs blah blah blah.  Soaked, 40psi to it, the whole nine.  Put it back, bike still running like crap.  Thought maybe a vacuum leak.  Got new rubber and clamp for carb mount.  seem to grab tighter and carb seemed more secure.  bike ran great!  then it didn't after 2 miles of riding.  checked fuel lines and it seems like the bike only ran on prime. (Tank is gravity feed since it has a sportster tank)  Petcock was gunked up and would not feed fuel fast enough on the "on" position.  ok, let's ride.  Ran fine for 4 miles this time.  pulled off to the side, bike cooled down a bit, starts right back up.  couple miles down, poops out again.  cools down, starts and runs fine, poops out.  Made it home.  Checked spark plugs, they look great.  checked for spark by grounding them.  Ignition coils - 4.5ohms on primary.  19.3k ohms on secondary.  out of spec.  I imagine, when getting heat soaked, they threw up on themselves, cooled down back to an acceptable range which would allow for enough spark for the bike to run.  replaced it with some arrowhead ignition coils.  skeptical because they aren't the $115 dollar versions from Kawasaki.  $28 on ebay.  measured them - 4.3 ohms on primary - 14.5k ohms on secondary.  they came pre-wired - just need to unscrew your old plug caps, cut wires down to length, and screw on the caps.  So far, so good.  Bike running like a charm, not pooping out, idle is great, no decel backfires, no backfires at all.

  Volusia build story.

Pics seem to be a bit erratic, but I'll give it a go...

So I had wanted to build a bobber for a good 10 years. I did try way back, but there weren't the parts around over here, and I didn't have the fabrication skills, so it all got shelved. Then I rediscovered a US board I used to frequent and found some links to places like Blue Collar Bobbers and Black Ops Bobbers, and it all got me thinking...
When I looked at this 10 years ago, there were two major issue to solve: how to attach the rear fender at the front end, and how to support the seat. Blue Collar and Black Ops seem to have solved those, but there were some things I wasn't happy with. Specifically, both the kits use a sort of 'stepped' tray to cover the battery box which I didn't like, and the Blue Collar one has holes in the top that let you see the battery posts. It rains a lot here, and I worked out some while ago that electrics and rain don't often play nicely. Black Ops seemed to be (temporarily) out of production, and the other issue with the Blue Collar setup was that it requires you to saw off the inner rear fender mounts (the 'horns' that stick up and lean inwards from the top of the frame tube). That was a no-no for me, because I wanted the option of returning to stock. The only option, then was a bit of fabrication.
So, the starting point was to strip the back of the bike. At this point, I had already received the front and rear fenders from Blue Collar, a separate lay down side-mount bracket for the license plate, some lights and a seat (under £25 from China on Ebay). So, I measured, notched and bent a length of 30 x 30 x 3mm angle iron and drilled two 10mm holes to create a seat support):
The next job was to cover the battery tray. The kits all seem to use flat steel plates put together to give quite an angular look, but I decided to take a different approach. I cut several pieces of thin (0.8mm) aluminium sheet and formed it with a soft mallet around a 32mm broom handle! That worked perfectly because the frame tubes are 30mm. The various bits were clamped in place and taped together:
Now, don't get me wrong, if I could have got away with polished aluminium or stainless like that, I would have, but my welding skills weren't up to that, so this was just a form for the next bit, which was to lay a load of glass fibre over it. Some of the 'missing' areas were simply covered over with multiple layers of duct tape. I put down four or five layers of CSM and let it set before offering up the seat:
[Image: 4.jpg][Image: 5.jpg]
The form was then removed and the whole thing covered in a thick layer of Plastic Padding (Bondo), before being sanded back. Rinse and repeat.
[Image: 6.jpg][Image: 7.jpg]
Now, at this point, I installed the rear fender for a test fit, and it was obvious that at full deflection the fender was going to hit the bottom of the seat mount, so it had to come off and get modified. At the same time, I had to modify the back of the GRP seat moulding, but I took the opportunity to use a couple of mastic tubes to form recesses for the springs:
[Image: 10.jpg][Image: 8.jpg]
Once these had been removed and sanded, the seat goes like this:
There's a deal of work still to do at this stage: I needed to fabricate a mounting plate for the license plate, the handlebars were being swapped to a set with more pullback, and I had some cute indicators to modify. I had a slight concern that the only tail/stop light was low down and shielded by the rear wheel from the right, so I bought a set of combined LED orange turn/red running/red brake lights from Ebay. They were Chinese, made of plastic, and utterly horrible, but the lamp part would fit inside these with a bit of modification:
So far, the bike looked like this:
So my lad decided to help a few days later by swapping out the corroded footpegs. Being blessed with more enthusiasm than experience, when one bolt refused to move, he applied a big breaker bar and sheared it off inside the frame. Nice. Anyway, the damned footpeg mount finally got sorted out after 45 minutes of drilling. I hadn't been able to get the 8mm hole dead centre because of the awkward location, but because the thing was a good 55-60mm deep, and drilled and tapped all the way through, I tapped it from the other side i.e. with the tap starting between the front frame tubes and running in good, undamaged thread. That was a right pain, because the clearance meant no more than a quarter of a turn at a time. Eventually, the tap emerged on the (damaged) outside and I was able to get the chuck of a drill on it and wind it the rest of the way out. Footpegs now all reinstalled. OK, and the new 40" Beach Bars arrived and got bolted on. They're slotted for internal wiring, which would be awesome, but will mean changing the controls, so a project for another day:
Next, I needed to decide on where to mount the rear indicators. The options were a) on the rear fender strut:
or b) on the battery box cover:
Option b) has simpler wiring, as the harness is under the cover already. Personally, I preferred Option a) even tough hiding the wiring would be a pain. OK, so finishing the battery cover took way too much time, P38 and sandpaper, but it was nearly complete. I decided to mount the rear indicators on the fender struts, and then discovered that for reasons best known to themselves, Blue Collar make them different shapes. The one on the right has a nice vertical run, but the one one the left leans over at about 15 degrees.. So the left one got beaten straight, then had a new bend put in at the top to match the one on the right.
New indicators on the front, too:
But mostly the battery cover got its first couple of coats of paint.
[Image: 18.jpg][Image: 15.jpg]
The sidemount plate had a bracket already, but I had to fabricate a curved plate for the license and reflector and a light bracket:
[Image: 19.jpg][Image: 20.jpg]

Now, after all that work, it still didn't look and feel right, so the risers were replaced with a much lower set. While that dropped the bars lower, it also moved them a couple of inches forward, too:
[Image: 21.jpg][Image: 22.jpg]
Finally, the hubs, spokes and brake rotor were blacked out, and custom graphics featuring my initials added to the tank, and a new radiator cover fitted... [Image: 30.jpg]
